DIY // Make Your Own Floral Crown!

16 October 2012

Lately many of you have been asking me how exactly I make those floral crowns that I have been wearing recently. I have gotten a few requests asking if I could make a tutorial, so I decided to make a simple post on how to make this DIY headband! So here we go...

First you will need a flower arrangement (real of fake) of your choice. If you are using fake flowers, I find that silk ones work best as they look the most realistic. You will also need a headband to wrap the flowers around, wire to attach them, and a hot glue gun to tidy up the floral frown for a finishing look.

The first step is to cut off a flower, leaving about 5 centimeters of stem. This is necessary when attaching the flower to to the headband. Next you will cut off a piece of wire, about 6 inches long. Begin to wrap the wire around the stem of the flower, leaving a bit of slack. Then you will wrap the extra piece of wire around headband, with the stem on the bottom side of the band. Repeat until you have as many flowers as you'd like on the headband. Now here is where the hot glue gun comes into play. There may be visible wire when you wear the headband. If so, glue down petals around the showing wire in order to hide them. I am sure there is a way to do this to make the floral crown of a bit more quality, but I find this the easiest and quickest way.

So there you have it! A floral crown to make you feel sweet and pretty on these cold/gloomy winter days to come. I know I will be wearing mine all year round... with chunky knits now and with a cute sundress later. PS- These little floral crowns I have been making are totally inspired by the lovely blogger K is For Kani. She had an etsy shop where she sells so many lovely pieces. If you are like  me and get a bit impatient to make your own and just want to buy one, check out the ones she has for sale here.

Hope you all enjoyed this little DIY! Stay tuned for   more.

Apple Picking Day

15 October 2012

Slowly but surely, everything on my Fall festivities to-do list is being checked off. A big must on that list was apple-picking in the beautiful east coast country side. Yesterday a group of friends and I went upstate to a farm full of autumn goodness. Luscious apples, a pumpkin patch, hayrides, apple cider, delicious pies, and basically everything else that makes this time of year so magical. We walked the fields in search of the most perfect apples, finding picking them straight off the ground to be the best method. One of my favorite things about the trip was simply having some time away from the city. Sometimes driving in a car with friends, blasting tunes down the highway is exactly what you need.

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend as well!

PS- If you have not yet checked out the Paul Mitchell #CurlsConfession video I did a few weeks back, see it here! Submit your #CurlsConfession to their facebook page to join in on the fun.

6.) a Funny note that Ryan wrote me while we were working on our computers- he HATES gum (weirdo).
7.) Indulging in Shake Shack.
8.) Strolling around town with this cutie.
9.) Making cupcakes and attempting to decorate them.
10.) Still obsessing over floral headbands
11.) Taking in beautiful cityscapes.
12.) Getting baking inspiration from the tasty treats at Dean & Deluca.

Hope you had a lovely week as well!

Outfit // Cold Enough For Coats

12 October 2012

So excited because it is officially cold enough for coats in NYC! I have been waiting to bring out this DV by Dolce Vita coat for quite some time now. Lately it has been my go-to piece. I absolutely love the leopard fur collar and I think it is the perfect touch to spice up any outfit. Can't wait to pair it with pretty polka dots or floral dresses. Love pattern-mixing, and a little accent like this is the perfect way to do it!

Hope you all have a wonderful Friday.

24th Birthday Celebration Snippets

10 October 2012

This year's birthday celebration was beyond amazing and even more wonderful than I could have ever imagined. I woke up to this seriously drool-worthy breakfast made by both my roommate and  my boyfriend. They decorated the apartment in pastel balloons and streamers and covered the table with delicious sweet treats... boy they sure do know me well! Later that day Ryan and I went on a birthday walk in Central Park and spent hours just wandering around the park. On the way back we celebrated with pumpkin beers, an absolute favorite fall treat of mine. That night I had a little shindig at my place where Christina cooked up some amazing hors d'oeuvres (macaroni and cheese bites, stuffed mushrooms and deviled eggs) and some great people came over to our apartment to celebrate.  Spending time with loved ones is my absolute favorite thing to do on my birthday and in my opinion it really doesn't get any better than that. I am so thankful for the lovely friends I have made in my 8 months in NYC that came and am so happy I got to celebrate this special day with such great people!

Also, I would like to thank you all for the many and oh-so-sweet birthday wishes from all of you! You sure know how to make a gal feel special, and I appreciate each and every one of your kind words!
